We make unique pens. Sometimes we design them ourselves, sometimes we work with our clients to create pens. This is a little explanation of how our pens are not an ordinary pen, and are instead a gift you can give with pride.
After the initial customization steps of selecting the mechanism design and style, and matching a body material, color, and pattern to go with it, we then step into our dedicated hand crafting for each unique pen.
This process starts with material preparation including precision measuring and drilling of the body material to fit the specifics of the selected mechanism. Then we start with several hours of the lathe work to sculpt and carve the body to the desired shape for each body piece.
Next, we go through four grades of sanding to even out the shape and ensure a comfortable, balanced piece. This is followed by applying 14 coats of acrylic and using a jeweler's loop every few layers to inspect for quality. This is where we identify and remove bubbles, nicks, or other flaws. If at any point a flaw is found, the pen body is sent back anywhere from a few sanding grades to several steps until our personal level of quality is met, or the piece is rejected, and we start over again.
Once the quality is acceptable, and the acrylic layers are applied, the piece is smoothed out once more with seven additional sanding grades going from a 600 grit down to a super fine 3200 grit, and then it is polished with six progressively finer grades of polish until we are satisfied with the shape, shine and finish.
If the pen has two body pieces, this process is repeated for the second piece. Once satisfactory pieces are created, then the body part(s) are pressed on to the mechanism hardware and inspected once again.
We take pride in our craftsmanship so you can take pride in your gift.
